On June 19, 2025, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Announcement No. 2025-258, proposing an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Cosmetics Act and opened it for public consultation. The deadline for submitting comments is July 30, 2025. Proposed Key Amendments include: (1) Disclosure of Risk Information Related to Directly Purchased Overseas Cosmetics (Overseas Direct Purchase Cosmetics): The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) may disclose relevant risk information-such as product names, countries of manufacture, and product images-of overseas direct purchase cosmetics on its official website. (2) Inspection Methods for Overseas Direct Purchase Cosmetics: Products are subject to label verification, as well as testing for physicochemical properties and microbiological parameters. (3)Survey Items for Overseas Direct Purchase Cosmetics: The survey will cover demographic characteristics of purchasers such as gender and age; types of cosmetics purchased, purchase frequency, and purchase motivations; and information on cosmetic usage, including amount used, frequency of use, and duration of use.
