About
Indonesia is a unitary presidential republic governed under the 1945 Constitution with Pancasila as its state philosophy. The central executive authority is headed by the President, who serves as Head of State, Head of Government and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, assisted by the Vice President and Cabinet. The President and Vice President are directly elected for a five-year term, eligible for one re-election. The President appoints ministers, and the Cabinet is accountable to the President. The central government formulates national laws, policies and regulatory frameworks, oversees ministries and non-ministerial agencies, administers nationwide governance and coordinates local governments. It maintains institutional checks and balances with legislative and judicial bodies, and manages domestic governance as well as international trade and foreign cooperation.
