About
BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency) is the Indonesian government body officially in charge of halal certification, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with its headquarters in Jakarta. It was established in October 2017 under Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, and officially began issuing halal product certifications on 17 October 2019. Its main responsibilities include formulating policies and standards for halal product assurance, receiving applications through the SIHALAL system and issuing and revoking halal certificates and labels, accrediting Halal Inspection Agencies (LPH), registering auditors, and conducting compliance supervision. In the certification process, BPJPH handles certification issuance and supervision, LPH performs technical audits, and MUI issues halal fatwa (religious rulings), with the three working together to complete the entire process. As the official certification body of the country with the world's largest Muslim population, BPJPH's certificates have been notified to the WTO and are widely recognized under international mutual recognition frameworks, serving as the legal prerequisite for food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and other products to legally enter Indonesia's halal market.
